PrepIT™Hospital Pharmacy and Drug Reconstitution Filters
The need for contamination prevention is particularly important in
pharmaceutical-related operations, since mixing, reconstitution and
compounding of drugs can carry significant risks for both handlers and
patients.
Whether preparing drugs, administering them to patients or discarding
the resulting waste products, personnel such as pharmacy technicians and
oncology nurses can be subjected to toxic exposure. Meanwhile, patients
are vulnerable to drugs that are not sterile or otherwise contaminated
by the inadvertent introduction of foreign matter.

options.
Core Application: Mixing & Drug Reconstitution
Definition: Sterilization and particulate removal are
essential procedures in the mixing, reconstitution and compounding of
drugs in hospital pharmacy and point-of-care applications. For example,
filters provide appropriate protection in situations where additives are
mixed with off-the-shelf manufactured solutions.
Requirements: For this application, PrepIT™offers superior
reliability in spikes, small volume filters and our Transferset.
PrepIT™filter spikes are bidirectional. During extraction, the filter
keeps the drug sterile and protects caregivers from exposure to
aerosols. All PrepIT™spikes are easy to use and offer optimum
flexibility with easy fluid withdrawal and storage vial penetration
(including minimal stopper damage).
Our Transferset is specifically engineered to enable the rapid
reconstitution of lyophilized drugs in vacuum vials; that is, to deliver
liquid from an injection vial into another vacuum-evacuated vial filled
with a lyophilized compound.
Benefits: Depending on intended functionality, Whatman
PrepIT™filtration solutions offer low hold-up volume, bacteria-free
venting, compact design and rugged construction-for highly effective
elimination and prevention of contamination.
TransferSet
The PrepIT™Transferset is specifically designed to facilitate the
reconstitution of Factor VIII and Factor IX drug preparations and is
intended to be used with lyophilized drug preparations in vacuum bottles
or vials. Designed primarily for the reconstitution of hemophilic
factors, the Transferset is also indicated for other applications in
which lyophilized drug preparations are offered. Whatman also offers a
variety of spikes and small volume filtration devices that can be
included in a Transferset kit.
