SteriCleanZ™ Filters for Hospital Wash and Other Sterilization
Applications
Definition: Patient infection can potentially be caused by water
sources used for personal hygiene, instrument cleaning and patient
consumption. Pathogens can colonize within hospital piping systems
raising the concentrations to potentially harmful levels. Accordingly,
water from these sources must be sterilized prior to being used,
particularly with high risk and immune-compromised patients.
Equipment such as autoclaves and incubators are commonly used within
medical and laboratory settings. It is critical to maintain
uncontaminated environments within the chambers of these types of
equipment. That's why air used to vent or circulate within the chambers
must be filtered.
Requirements: The most effective way to reduce the risk of
water or gas contamination is to filter the liquid or gas at the point
of use. In the case of hospital wash water this is usually at the taps,
faucets or wash stations and with autoclaves or incubators directly
attached or integrated within the equipment. Filters chosen for these
applications must offer a proven ability to provide large volumes of
sterilized water or gas. In some cases the filters must also offer the
ability to be cleaned, resterilized and reused.
