Product Name :
    DiI (DiIC18(3), or 1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocyanine perchlorate)

Description:

DiI is a widely used carbocyanine membrane dye that labels cell membranes by inserting its two long (C18 carbon) hydrocarbon chains into the lipid bilayers. Particularly, it has been extensively used for the anterograde and retrograde labeling of neurons. The intense fluorescence and high photostability of the dye make it possible to visualize the fine structures (axons and dendrites) of the neurons. Due to its low toxicity and the tendency to give highly stable cell labeling, the dye has also been generally used for long term cell tracing of cells both in cultures and in living embryos or animals. Please see our ready-to-use CellBriteTM Cell Membrane Labeling Kits for labeling cell suspension in Bioscience Kits section.

    DiO (3,3'-dioctadecyloxacarbocyanine, perchlorate)

Description:

DiO is another carbocyanine membrane dye that has applications similar to those of DiI (See #60010). However, DiO has green fluorescent emission and the lateral diffusion rate on the membranes is generally slower than that of DiI. DiO and DiI are often used together in dual color studies. Also see our Neuro-DiO (#60015).

    DiOC14(3), hydroxyethanesulfonate (3,3'-ditetra decyloxacarbocyanine, hydroxyethanesulfonate)

Description:

DiOC14(3) is a DiO derivative, but is more soluble in aqueous media than the latter because of the shorter hydrocarbon chains. The dye is more suitable than DiO for staining cells suspension. An even better choice for staining cell suspension is our ready-to-use CellBriteTM Cell Membrane Labeling Kits in Bioscience Kits section

Product Name :
    Neuro-DiO

Description:

Biotium developed Neuro-DiO as a replacement for the green fluorescent DiO, which has been found to be difficult to use for neurons and cell suspension due to low solubility, tendency to form aggregates and slow lateral diffusion rate. Neuro-DiO and DiO have nearly identical absorption and emission spectra, but the former has better solubility in membranes and does not form nonfluorescent aggregates, which also tend to slow down the dye diffusion rate in membranes. Product Name :
    Neuro-DiI

Description:

Neuro-DiI was developed at Biotium as an alternative to the widely used fluorescent membrane probe DiI. Neuro-DiI has structural features that may make the probe diffuse faster than DiI on cell membranes and also may result in a more stable labeling. Neuro-DiI has nearly identical absorption and emission wavelengths to those of DiI.

Product Name :
    Neuro-DiO in vegetable oil

Description:

Neuro-DiO is a derivative of DiO and has spectral property nearly identical to that of the latter. However, unlike DiO, Neuro-DiO is structurally more similar to DiI, which is known to be a much better lipophilic neuronal tracer than regular DiO. Like DiI in oil, Neuro-DiO is uniformly dissolved in vegetable oil in a formulation optimized for microinjection. The green fluorescent Neuro-DiO and red fluorescent DiI in oil can be used in combination for two color imaging.

Product Name :
Dilinoleyl DiI (also called FAST DiI1 or 1,1'-dilinoleyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylindocarbocynanine perchlorate)

Description:

Dilinoleyl DiI and DiI (#60010) have identical absorption and emission spectra. However, the unsaturated hydrocarbon chains of dilinoleyl DiI make the dye have a much faster lateral diffusion rate in cell membranes than regular DiI. This property makes dilinoleyl DiI particularly useful for tracing neurons in tissues.
