protein g usesprotein g top

Protein G, a cell wall protein originally isolated from Type G Streptococci, is a monomeric protein with a molecular weight of about 50,000 kDa, completely lacking in cysteine residues. Protein G binds the Fc region of immunoglobulin G (IgG) with high affinity. Due to this binding ability, Protein G can be used to facilitate the purification and recovery of either polyclonal or monoclonal immunoglobulins. Protein G will bind immunoglobulin G from many different species including all human and mouse subclasses, binding the Fc regions of two IgG molecules simultaneously. Protein G binds IgG from rat but substantially weaker than with other species, and will not bind to the Fc portion of chicken antibodies at all.
