Description:
SafeView™ is a new and safe nucleic acid stain for detection of
double-stranded DNA, single-stranded DNA and RNA in agarose
gels. This dye is a safe alternative to ethidium bromide (a
potent mutagen and toxic) for visualization of DNA or RNA in
agarose gel. SafeView™ is non-carcinogenic, is as sensitive as
ethidium bromide (EB) and is used the same way as EB in agarose
gel electrophoresis. The dye has a excitation maximum of 290-320
nm (the same as EB) so you get maximum signal strength from your
gel documentation system. SafeView™ emits green fluorescence
when bound to dsDNA and red fluorescence when bound to ssDNA or
RNA.
SafeView™ is the only safe nucleic acid stain that is
stable, it is stored at room temperature. Invitrogen's
SYBR Green is safe but it is not stable and it is not optimal
for gel electrophoresis because it is maximally excited at 497
nm. |
